After becoming the capital of French Guinea in 1904, Conakry flourished as an export port, particularly for groundnut. More than a century later, its population has grown to around two million, living in five urban districts, comprising the city center of Kaloum; Dixinn, home to the University of Conakry and several embassies; the nightlife hub of Ratoma; Matam, with its Centre Médical Commune de Matam hospital; and Matoto, the location of Conakry International Airport. As Guinea's largest city, Conakry still boasts a flourishing port today, with its modern facilities for cargo storage. With its tropical climate, Conakry has a dry season from December to April.
